Question

Pls help me (it's psyc life span birth to death) I have an answer/feedback for these questions, can u please give me an answer by looking at the answer feedback.

Information: We have reviewed how aging affects the body, but we have not explored how aging affects the brain and cognitive ability. Research points to the greatest age-related changes in memory and attention. Like other organs and structures, the brain does change as the result of decreased blood flow as we age. Also like other organs and structures, how the brain function changes with age differs in every individual. While there is cognitive decline in age, it is not as pessimistic as it sounds as the brain is a very flexible organ that can be trained and “exercised” even in old age. Research into how the brain ages contributes to a better understanding of how to keep the brain active and high-functioning well into late adulthood.

Question: According to this video clip, what did the experiment show? According to the researcher, what do the findings mean for older adults? With this information, what advice might you give to an older adult that you care about to help him/her stay mentally active?

Answer feedback: The experiment demonstrates that older adults have a harder time multitasking than younger adults do. Older adults had difficulty memorizing a word list while walking. The researcher suggests that older adults tend to focus their mental resources on the more high priority task (walking) over a lower priority task (memorizing). Perhaps, tell your older loved one not to be anxious about age-related attention and memory changes. The changes are real but relatively mild in affecting overall health and happiness. Compensate for the changes by writing things down or concentrating on only one thing when wanting to remember or learn something. The brain still works extremely well in old age, so healthy older folks should not be afraid to use it.

Explanation / Answer

Most of the time, we make a very big issue about the ageing adults in our homes. We criticise them for not able to do their works on their own, forgetting things, not able process information well etc. The strange thing is that nature has made our physical body in such a way that the cells decay and the strength declines. Although it’s got nothing to do with the mental aging, it does have some effects on the physical body. It’s also true that the physical body ages quicker than the mental process but with the help of exercise, reading, making notes of things, sharing with people etc. will help the aged keep in touch of the reality and refresh their memory. They only need to understand it and people around them should understand it and help them live a normal life.
