Note: This response is in UK English, please paste the response to MS Word and you should be able to spot discrepancies easily. You may elaborate the answer based on personal views or your classwork if necessary. Also, I haven’t addressed the “FAIR” structure part of the question as I couldn’t find any data on such a term.
(Answer) “Forget About Stigma” is a piece in the New York Times by Claire Cain Miller and Ruther Fremson. The article follows the accounts of a few men and how their lives have become more uplifting after being male nurses.
The headline has the word “stigma” in it. This makes the article seem contentious and helps grab the reader’s attention. The article goes on to concisely set up the idea of how being a nurse was viewed as a female’s job. The report builds up through interviews with male-nurses who talk about how fulfilling the profession is to them. They talk about how the stigma that being a nurse is “feminine,” is slowly fading away.
The points are presented through the points made by the people who are talking about their personal experiences with the job. In order to give the reader a sense of closure, the article ends on a hopeful note by reporting that the stigma is slowly beginning to fade away.
This is an interesting article to read because it does not have much of the normal politics being reported in it. It is refreshing to read about someone who might be your neighbour, friend or simply someone who might be making a difference. The headline helps grab attention and report of the personal experiences help the reader read on.
