Explanation / Answer

The fact cannot be denied that the HR department of an organization possess a poor reputation and individuals believe that the actual objective for which the HR department was formed is never fulfilled and the statement is partially or majorly true because in most of the organizations the hr. department has failed to gain the trust of the employees and they are always seen as the management favoring unit and the actual objective has not been served. The way business is done today has changed a lot from the past and there is huge competition in any field of industry today which makes it difficult for organizations to sustain and achieve all the organizational goals and I believe that here lies the role of the HR department that it needs to play. HR is considered to be an integral part of the organization today and the HR needs to the play the role of a strategic partner along with that of being and employee advocate.

If we consider XYZ mutual an insurance giant of the nation who has been quite successful in the industry for quite a bit of time and this organization is on of those few organizations who possess a strong HR department according to the employees and this has been the reason behind the success of the organization largely because organizations need to understand that the along with the clients or customers the employees are also important stakeholders of the organization and there interests should be safeguarded and the HR unit of XYZ has been successful in doing that. Now the question is why has been the HR department ineffective in playing the role for which such a unit was implemented. There are various reasons behind the fact, like:

1. The management never considered HR as important because they were generally not involved in direct revenue generation.

2. The employees did not have trust on the department because they thought they are representatives of the organization and not the employees so there is no point having s discussion with them.

3. The HR was used as a shield by the management in various situations like lowering down the amount of increment, terminating employees, etc.

This was not the reasons for the establishment of the HR unit, rather it was implemented to act as employee advocate and as strategic partner nut such organizational challenges made the unit somewhat different form the expectation. That is the reason today the HR departments are being taken seriously by the management and individuals having both technical and management background are preferred so that they7 can provide solutions considering both the aspects.
