The research topic is 'comparing the human resource management practices in small and medium sized enterprises'. The assessment will use qualitative research to identify the concerns of management issues in small and medium sized enterprises. The literature review includes the research by Heneman and Berkley 1999. Hornsby and kuratko research of 1990 has also been included with presentation of information on human resource management practices in SMEs. The issues regarding practitioner concerns of human resource practices and academic research have been pointed out. However there is not enough research to focus on the recruiting practices in SMEs according to Heneman and Berkley 1999. The extent of the application of the theory to smaller entrepreneurial organizations also needs to be explored (Kimoski 1991, Miner 1980). There needs to be more focus given between the interaction of firm size and human resource practices.
