Hi I have to write a program in java that is a movie recommendation system using a 2-dimensional array. The program needs to identify other users whose taste is similar. I was wondering if there is a mathematical way of analyzing similarity between sets of data? I know that I can find similar users by finding which users have the most movies in common then compare their ratings for the movies. I can subtract the difference between the ratings & the users with the smallest difference have similar taste in movies.
But I want to use a method that is more sophisticated.
Any suggestions?

analysis can be made by considering the fallowing : * age group of people. * types of movies they are interested in (animation,horror,etc). *count of movies they had seen in the same season *favorite stars ,production house,directors,cast etc
