Explanation / Answer
The environmenal crisis of oil spill was a major one and Tony Haywards was not successful in showing accountability or leadership for the company.
It is important that the leader to take accountability and they have an important role for clearing the issues caused by them.
He tried to minimise the extent of the issue instead of taking any stern action for it. He did not set any appropriate actions and expectations for the same. He shifted the responsibility and blame to someone else.
He was concerned about why he is suffering from this problem instead of actually taking action against the actual issue. He made it all about himself instead of giving any consideration about the issue or take charge of the situation as a leader.
There were lapses in the problem related to communication issues, preparedness and taking charge of the alert systems and making sure communication is tackled effectively.
