Explanation / Answer
1. One of the examples of a company using innovative ways to utilize internet advertising is the Dollar Shave Club. Shaving prior to its internet advertising was considered mostly a boring routine. But the Collar Shave Club’s revolutionary, and rightly so legendary launch video “Our Blades are F***ing Great” shook the notion that this industry has to be a drab and button-up one. Its video has been viewed over 24 million times and the company received over a million subscribers owing to it. Also, the company was recently acquired for $1 billion by Unilever. There innovative and cheeky content of their internet advertising like “Do I Really Need to Wash My Hands After I Pee?” and “Is It Bad to Pluck Nose Hairs with My Fingers?” grabbed attention of its target customers creating a fun image for the brand. The possible trend this kind of advertising can show is the fact that many brands are trying to shed their past boring images through innovative internet advertising contents and new startups are using this trend to create awareness for their brand.
2. Many companies are using non-traditional advertising mediums these days to create a lasting memory of their message in their customers’ minds, in the environment of information overload in the marketing world. One such example is the McDonald’s seed bombing designed by Sean Click. McDonald’s brightened up dirty freeways with its colorful logo, but not by paint or print, but by using California Poppies, the state’s official flowers which making it illegal to dig up, helping the company in automatically preserving the advertisement. So destroying McDonald’s ad becomes illegal in the state. This can be followed as a trend by some company using maybe dandelions in Massachusetts, or the likes.
