Can someone explain to me what is suppose to be done in this assignment, I don't understand what I am suppose to do
"You will be assigned the virtual network of another group when you log-in in your account.(When you will click the tab for terminals, you will see the shell terminal for all hosts, but you can login to the IntFW only as the passwords for other hosts have been changed by their user group).You have one-week time to work on it. During that time period, the original group should not make configuration changes to their network. After that, you should log in on the host Intfw which you have access from other group. You can run a set of commands, such as ifconfig, ping, traceroute, nmap and tcpdump to discover. To get the detailed usage manual for each command, you can run “man cmd-name” for details".

According to my understanding you will be provided with virtual access of snother group where u r not having access to that.When you will be signed in to your account in the terminals all the hosts will be present which are there in the group but u can't access them as they are password secured.but u can login to nly intFW which they provided access to you.
As you are given access in that group u have to know the details of other hosts by using following commands:
-->ifconfig:which helps to configure additional interfaces,using this u can cretae the interfaces with other hosts
-->ping:it helps to check the avilability of the host.
-->traceroute:helps to get the how our host machine getting responses and signals it gives
-->nmap:it detects the livehosta of the networks and also open ports that are in ussage in present network
-->tcpdump:It gives details about no.of packets tranfferd across the network and also for future reference it helps
-->man:It is nothing but short form of manual page.
