The goal of the course ENGL 1142 is to enhance the students’ teamwork abilities, so they are better equipped to work more efficiently both in individual and collaborative environments. Through this course, the students will also be trained in creating variety of documents specific to technical disciplines like memos, cover letter, transmittal letters, original graphics, lab reports and project reports which will help them in improving their written communication skills. The course will also cover skills in Standard English usage needed for reaching scientific audiences. In addition to that, students will be able to demonstrate enhanced communication skills through collaborative and multimedia presentations by the end of this course. Apart from communication and teamwork, the course also intends to teach the students the use of correct APA formats and citation, present mathematical results and calculations in clear and appropriate graphic formats. Lastly, on completion of this course, the students will be able to effectively analyze the ethical and legal situations for technical writers.
