Question

I'm running CentOS on Virtual Box and I'm having a problem with shared folder permissions. Currently the permissions are: drwxrwx---. It still isn't allowing me to enter the folder. I've added the folder to vbox groups already as well. The folder is mounted. I'm not sure what to do at this point.

When I inputted ls -la I get the following:
drwxr-xr-x. 4 root root 45 Mar 6 18:58 .
dr-xr-xr-x. 17 root root 233 Feb 9 21:35 . .
drwxrwx---. 1 root vboxsf 306 Mar 6 18:49

When I try to change directories or enter the folder I get: Permission denied.

Explanation / Answer

On a network, when you're accessing devices, there are two types of permissions. 1. The permissions on the users in your own machine. The permissions on the users in the network. If you're unable to access the device, just go to the host operating system, and change the permissions of the folder over there. Then, get back to your VM, and check it out if you could access the files/folders. And see in the second file, it shows you don't have a write permission, and you're only allow to read and execute. If everything is right with the host machine, and if you're still unable to access/update it on the guest OS, try changing the permissions in the Virtual Manager. i.e., the hypervisor which you're using on your machine. Give proper permissions, and finally try to access the files using sudo. Hopefully this could work.
