9. What salary range are you looking for?

10. What questions do you have for me?

Explanation / Answer

1. Tell me about yourself.

Hi! I have completed my education from New York and look to pursue a career in Human Resources. I have received the required theoretical knowledge and want practical exposure which can help me in improving my skill set.

2. What’s most important to you in a new position/job/career?

The most important aspect in any position / job / career is to get job satisfaction. You need to be happy with what you are doing and if you can see growth it will keep you motivated. Financial rewards, emoluments etc. do play a role but are not the only factor that are vital.

3. What has been your biggest professional or personal achievement?

My biggest achievement has been to make a presentation of our business plan to our affiliated college. We had to choose our own group, prepare a report and presentation on our own with very less guidance from the faculty as they were not supposed to get involved. We prepared the presentation and were liked by the affiliated college representative and won a certificate.

4. Why did you leave your last job? (Or why are you thinking about leaving your current job?)

It felt like I have reached a saturation point where I could see no growth, hence, the reason for switching jobs.

5. Tell me about your experience at [your last job].

In my previous assignment I was instrumental in preparing the entire team of network and system engineers as I was the only HR person in the office and the company had just started out. Apart from that I was entrusted with the task of managing the day to day office affairs and look after the employee grievances.

6. Tell me about your strengths.

My ability to give a patient hearing to both parties has been a strong point. In any argument there are two sides and it’s important to listen to both sides and give both of them a patient hearing before arriving at any decision.

7. Tell me about your weaknesses.

In the past I have been subject to being gullible due to my lack of practical experience.

8. Tell me about a time when … (These will be situations relevant to the position. For instance: Tell me about when you had to take initiative … you had to deal with a difficult customer … you had to respond to a crisis … you had to give difficult feedback to an employee … You get the idea.)

Since I have been in the Human Resource team one of the most difficult part of the job is to let go of people. Even if they are poor performers it actually is a very painstaking job to do. However, when there have been situations where we have had to get rid of a few people I had to talk to them and pacify them and explain to them the reason for terminating them. Those have been difficult times.

9. What salary range are you looking for?

I am looking at a 30% hike from my previous annual salary.

10. What questions do you have for me?

I want to understand the role and want to know what are a few specific things that you are looking at in a candidate whom you want in your team.
