Whenever the Internet is not working in your desktop or laptop the first thing need to check is is the network is in connected or disconnected in the system or laptop,because sometimes it is possible even if the connection is good there might be some issues with browser.

After that check the modem where the user cable is connected whether that modem is connected to broadband or disconnected by checking with the lights which is blinking in the modem.

Even that is also fine then check with the cable is the physical condition is good or any damage is happened with the cable.

If the above all are then check the device hardware is working or failed. Check the cable with the other device and get to know the device condition.
