Physiology: Blood Pressure Table questions- Really Need help (please)

For each of the factors listed below, describe how being immersed in hot water, consuming alcohol and taking Lasix, would affect each and why. Make sure to follow the Example Answer.

Effect of hot water Effect of Alcohol Effect of Lasix Peripheral resistance reduced by heat due to vasodilation response to cool core temp reduced by alcohol which inhibits vasoconstriction due to depression of CNS and sympathetic output No direct effect Heart Rate Stroke Volume

Explanation / Answer

The immediate response to immersion in hot water is increased heart rate and stroke volume. This is followed by decreased heart rate and stroke volume. When immersed in hot water immediately some heat exchange will be observed that is mediated through increased circulation. As body always tries to maintain optimum temperature, this n longer contineus.

Alcohol causes CNS depression, which results in bradycardia (decreased heart rate) and decreased stroke volume.

Lasix or furosemide loop diuretic that is generally used to treat edema in congestive heart failure patients. Lasix decreases stroke volume while the heart rate ramains unchanged. Lasix causes a decrease in central blood volume that result in a shift of the total blood volume from the cardiopulmonary circulation (decreased preload) to the periphery, which is supported by the dilatation of peripheral blood vessels.
