Effective written communication skills are paramount to being an effective Energy Manager. This lesson will focus on the critical competencies necessary to communicate effectively with other professionals.
Think of a time in which you received an email in which you had to read it multiple times to truly understand the message. What was the email about? Why was it so difficult to understand? What could have been done differently to ensure that the correct message was transmitted and received?

There was an email, sent by one of my ex-colleagues in which the person was asking me for an insider information of the company. I think he was hesitant in asking the same directly and so was totally beating around the bush, which had considerably decreased the comprehensibility of the message. I had to read through the email 5 times, to under his perspective and concerns. The colleague had used various aspects of bad email writing, which had made the message, quite difficult to understand. Examples of some of such practices are:
To increase the comprehensibility of an email or a message, proper email etiquettes must be followed. Email etiquettes basically are the set of rules and guiding principles which must be followed, while writing emails. These etiquettes basically define the code of conduct to be followed while writing emails and messages. The email etiquettes do vary depending upon the type of email and the recipient of the mail. If the email is formal and the recipient is a client or business partner, then the tone of the email must be formal and the content must be crisp and to the point. In case of writing an email to a friend for non-official purposes, some of the formality in tone can be left out.
