Is gambling on sports healthy for the game? The world of sports gambling has been around for a very long time, but still does not feel completely right. Elliot Harrison, NFL analyst, successfully predicted 11 out of 15 wins the opening week and some by the exact play as well. Just feels like some players, as happened before, can secretly bet on themselves and play according to who they bet on. We even have some NFL team owners voting upon making it legal for teams to be bet on and partnering up with casinos as well. Roger Goodell, NFL commissioner, has been trying to fight this gambling on the league to keep everything under control and truly just have players play to win. I feel this ethical dilemma to me is consequentialism because it could lead to major consequences if not rightfully done. Richard Sherman is an active NFL player on the San Francisco 49ers who is starting up his own sports gambling website. As a player that should not be done being that you may be able to change things during games with you actually being on the field determining bets to go one way or another. Team owners are hoping for casinos to buy their team’s data to begin making profit from these bets and having these analysts truly become touts, preaching to bet on certain teams that will “lose”. Roger Goodell just needs to control this league, which him being the commissioner has the full out right to do. Setting some factors, standards and not allowing owners so much freedom should be able to control things much better than it has been lately since he is truly against so much gambling within the NFL.

Sport gambling is legal though Roger Goodell oppose gambling on sports as it is not right for the game. As NFL has evolved its position on gambling, still it doesn't mean NFL stance on gambling. Though we don't see NFL openly supporting the legalization of sports betting, but realize it helps the games to drive eyeballs as well as increase revenue. While anything that would hurt games integrity negatively should be avoided. It can cause biggest issue that would hurt fans as well as players and ultimately affects the confidence in the game.
