EBay is a great example of the target customer being part of the supply chain. EBay is the world’s online marketplace, a place that brings together both buyers and sellers (What is EBay, 2018). EBay allows almost anything to be sold on their website. The products could be shipped or picked up locally. I often find myself looking on EBay for parts for my old cars or a product that is hard to come by in my local area. I also sell items on EBay in an effort to make some additional money.
EBay was founded in the mid 1990’s, the company was created to facilitate consumer to consumer sales through its website (What is EBay, 2018). The company was one of the first of its kind, consumers were able to sell items all across the country. EBay charges a small fee to list the product for sale. Once the product was sold the seller would have the option of leaving the funds in an account held by eBay or you would be able to send the money to your bank account. The platform that eBay created allowed for consumers to find items that would have normally been impossible to find. Also, eBay made it possible for small companies to compete with larger ones by lowering the overhead cost and therefor providing these goods at a discounted rate on eBay.
Making the customer part of the supply chain gave eBay credibility with the consumers. If someone wanted to sell items on eBay, they would create an account and start selling. The ease of use of the platform is what made eBay so successful. If for any reason, the seller or buyer was not happy with the transaction, they would be able to leave feedback. Also, there is an option of involve eBay in any fraudulent activities.

This provides opportunities to sell the goods which are unique and or of any kind and make some extra money. And also get some rare things which are hard to buy from market. This platform made the eBay's supply chain effective with direct dealing between customers and sellers satisfying both of them. The interface of ebay is user friendly and a reason of eBay's success. It also facilitates feedback mechanism to help both the parties and provide option of involve eBay in any fraudulent activities. There is an effective system with easy payment and receipt. And an easy delivery or shipment to get or transfer the goods.
