Part 1 – Security Analysis

For part 1, you will do a security analysis of the current networks and what needs to be changed to make the system secure. This will be part of the HIPPA requirements for the medical offices, so make sure you cover not just external security (from the internet) but also the internal security of patient records.

Your security analysis should be a short 2-page proposal in APA style that identifies the major gaps in the current security for the combined company and steps that need to be taken to update the overall security for the new company. You will submit your assignment in Unit 2. Once you get the feedback from your instructor make any modifications that are necessary and save in a Word document.

Explanation / Answer

In the current system, all the system were accessing the same network gateway. Through individual routers, the network has been provided to different machines. When we consider the present system many computers are sharing the same plan it causes a serious privacy and security-related issues.

The possible security issues can be as follows:

1) Violation of the privacy.
2) Eavesdropping the data.
3) Hacking the network.
4) Data compromise.

These are the major issues which might ruin the network and can be prone to intruders. Major changes can be done to avoid this situation by ensuring proper security and its related measures. The security measures to follow include the following:

1) Ensures there is a change in IP to protect the data over the long run.
2) Keep firewall across each router to ensure the privacy.
3) Connect a pool of systems to one group and change them over time.
4) Try changing passwords to ensure the privacy.
5) Proper network checks need to be done every week to ensure a healthy network.

The above things can be introduced in the new network to ensure security and reliability.

Steps required to be taken to update the security:

1) Assess the present network to identify the gaps in it.
2) Validate the infrastructure to accommodate the new changes.
3) Ensure high-security routers and switches to restrict the eavesdropping of the sensitive information.
