Question
Part 1 – Sociological Perspectives A. Early social thinkers were concerned about order and stability in times of rapid change. In our more global world, is stability still a primary goal? Or is constant conflict important for the well-being of all humans? Use the conflict and functionalist perspectives to bolster your analysis.
B. Describe, compare and contrast symbolic interactionism and postmodernist perspectives on social life. How are they similar and how are they different? What issues and levels of analysis do each perspective focus? Which perspective makes the most sense to you and why? Give specific examples.
Explanation / Answer
A.In this world of ours with increasing global trade and communication, there is no doubt that all societies will be forced to adapt to continuing change in cultural stability. Examining this with the conflict perspective would suggest that these various cultures will eventually try to out-culture one another in order to win supreme culturedom. My view on things, however, would be supported by a more functionalist view in the sense that various cultures don't need to clash with each other. Rather, they can learn from one another and eventually form one super-culture that will no doubt lead mankind into a strange new world of mass technological advancement and galactic dominance. I agree with the Functionalist perspective in the respect that we all need to cooperate to survive. Each country or part of government or community or even as small of a scale as a single family has a roll they have to play and needs to work together to get by. But on the other hand I do think conflict is a good thing. We learn from conflict just like we learn from our mistakes. Conflict allows us to grow and change. There are tons of people in the world today that live better lives because of the results of a conflict or war, which I think is the main goal of any government. I guess I'm trying to say they are both important, because after a conflict, there has to be stability to pull it all together again. Due to time limit, remaining can be asked as another question, they will be answered, thankyou for your cooperation
