2. Golden Record is an attempt of the human beings on earth to strike a cord with the extra-terrestrial life forms in space. The music pieces on the golden record try to signify the cultural reminiscences of the world, we live in. Unique music record from every country is selected on recorded on the golden record. From India, the music recorded on the Golden record is Raga Bhairavi- Jaat Kahan Ho.

This song is a Hindustani classical piece and the only song representing the culture of India. Jaat Kahan ho is based on Raga Bhairavi and is an interstellar song, sung by Kesarbai Kerkar. Kesarbai Kerkar is a celebrated artist form the 1900s, born and brought up in Goa, India. She used to practice singing or conduct riyaaz for 18 hours a day and people used to sit for hours, listening to her melodious voice.

The song Jaat Kahan Ho is a beautiful rendition of Raga Bhairavi and the notes of the Phrygian. Ethnomusicologist, Robert Brown had chosen this song to be included on the golden record. In his views, this song is the masterpiece of Indian classical music and is the best to represent Indian culture in the space.
