Over course of my career I have learned leadership to be defined as guiding people in the achievement of goals, mission, vision or assignment by understanding what and or how each person or employee is motivated and using that knowledge to manage their talent and skills. Lumen Learning’s boundless management refers to leadership as the process by which an individual mobilizes people and resources to achieve a goal. Leadership and management differ in that management is controlling a specific process or processes as well as controlling people’s actions in that process. “The organization and coordination of the activities of a business in order to achieve defined objective.” (Good one to know, n.d.) Leadership however, focuses on a bigger picture and is centered on developing a relationship with people to achieve a desired goal. “Leadership is a relationship between followers and those who inspire them and provide direction for their efforts and commitments.” (Boundless Management, n.d.) While there can be similarity the two and managers often use the tools of a leader, the two can be very different.
The new director would do best to use the engagement style of leadership. Biotech and Melanie have set forth clear guidance on the present and future of the new line of cosmetics. The engagement style of leadership refers to involving employees in decision making and keeping them well informed of relevant and pertinent information. With a multi-cultural workforce and new landscape of the production facility in a new location, using employee knowledge of the resources and capabilities can help to better achieve the goals and vision of Biotech. Therefore, the engagement style of leadership enables the new director to establish positive working relationships and apply this knowledge to leading a new set of people and personalities.
To ensure the mission and vision of Biotech are met the new director will need to very clearly understand them herself. To do so it is useful to break down each into components and then analyze each section of both the vision and mission. Since the vision is a concept of ideas and goals that the company desires, it is a good idea to communicate with senior leadership often. A vision can at times change based on advances in the economy or technology. Communicating often will help to stay in line with company vision. Since the mission is more direct and tangible, this will require setting guidelines such as deadlines for report submission or close management of production. “A Mission Statement defines the company’s business, its objectives and its approach to reach those objectives.” (Mission and Vision Statements, 2018) Setting achievable and realistic goals to meet those objectives gives employees something to work for and be proud of. Finally, posting the company mission and vision statement in the workplace and breakroom will help employees to see them frequently. Also use them as a tool at meetings or training to help better define why the company uses certain policies or procedure. In the end ensuring the employee base is aware and understands the company mission and vision will help to ensure they are met.

Biotech’s New Mission and Vision Statement
Our mission is to dominate the cosmetic industry through the production of a variety of health and beauty products that are of the highest quality and guaranteed with the backing of safe and humane testing.
Our vision is to enhance the world of cosmetics through the development of safe and affordable products using advancing technology as well as green energy as our primary source of power and production in all our facilities.

Feedback on Activity 1 :
The activity 1 explains the concept of application of leadership in management of the organization. It focus on how the leadership is useful in guiding the people in achieving their goals, mission, vision in the organization. It is a good tool and approach for people motivation and getting best out of the team of employees for the organization. As per Lumen- leadership mobilize people and resources to achieve their business target and business goals. It focus on the key differences between the management and leadership and shows that leadership is a bigger picture than management, which gives relational binding between the followers and leader. The explanation of engagement style of leadership is also a good approach as it has better results for the employee and organization. The other key thing it explained is the significance of the mission and vision statement for the organization and how this helps the organization in terms of leadership. The vision and mission helps the organization to practice leadership and motivates the employees and they can understand the direction for themselves and for the organization.
Feedback on Activity 2 :
The statement of mission and vision in the activity two are not completely meeting the standards of mission and vision statement. In the two statements, they have used all the words whatever they want to explain or show.
The vision and mission statement should be very clear and easy in understanding and appropriate length of the sentences so that a general person can easily understand properly and quickly.
So we would like to reword the vision and mission statements
Mission Example - Dominate the cosmetic industry by first to the market with best products in safety and quality, at lowest possible cost.
