Memo on Hiring

You are a manager in a firm in a very competitive industry. A competitor has made an important scientific discovery that could give it an advantage that would substantially hurt your firm’s financial future. A scientist who knows the details of the discovery applies for a job at your firm, and he is asking for a salary of twice his current salary. There are no legal barriers to hiring the scientist.

The CEO of your firm knows that you studied ethics in your MBA program at Detroit Mercy and so asks you to give her your advice. In your memo to the CEO, indicate the principal ethical issues and the ethical norms to be used, and make a recommendation.

Explanation / Answer

Sir, the person who has applied for the job had discovered a very important one which will be more beneficial to grow in the carrier and our firm will also achieve more success. That scientist was applied for the job in our firm if we I hired him our company will be beneficial if we doesn’t hire him there is scope to see problems because our competitor will attract all the customers. You are saying that he was asking twice the current salary but according to the ethical norms if we want to hire an employee there was scope to have only 30% of hike from the current salary. If we neglect the norms in the future we should face more problems regarding this issue. In order to overcome these problems we should hire the scientist but we should accommodate that person by offering some benefits like health insurances and extra allowances like petrol or diesel to his car and some entertainment trips and with this hike of 30%. This should be clearly intimated to the scientist if he accepts this offer we can hire him. If we hire him it should be intimated that the idea which he discovered should be leaked to any other firms and should not share about the benefits which are offered to him by the firm because these benefits show negative impact on the another employees. If his work increases the fame of our firm then there was a chance to increase more salary according the ethical norms.
