Question
Can somebody please briefly explain why the rate order for OH- isgiven as 2? I manipulated the data and found that the rateorder for OH- is 1. Can somebody please tell me whether therate order for OH- is 1 or 2?Explanation / Answer
You have not answered my question. The reaction is given as2ClO2 + OH- ----> ClO3- + ClO2- + H2O Then I'm giving a chart with the concentrations for both ClO2 andOH- and the initial rates. From the information in this chartI noticed that a change in the OH- concentration yields aproportional change in the initial rate and a change in the ClO2concentration yields a change that is the squared value of changeyou made to the ClO2 concentration. Given what I told you, wouldthe order of OH- be 1 or 2 and please explain why, but only usingthe information that I have given you (Nothing is mentioned aboutslow or fast rates/or rate determining step).
