Question
The diagram below shows siz cells in various phases of the cell cycle. Note the cells are not arranged in the order in which the cell cycle occurs. Use the diagram to answer questions 1-7. Cells A & F show an early and a late stage of the same phase of the cell cycle. What phase is it? _____ Which cell is in metaphase? _____ Which cell is in the first phase of M phase (mitosis)? _____ In cell A, what structure is labeled X? _____ List the diagrams in order from first to last in the cell cycle. _____ Are the cells depicted plant or animal cells? a. Justify your answer using complete sentences. b. If it were the other type of cell what would be different in the diagrams? Answer using complete sentences. What is the longest phase of the cell cycle? _____ Why is mitosis important when tissues are damaged? Predict what would happen in mitosis if a cell had faulty spindle fibers. Predict what would happen in mitosis if cytokinesis was skipped.Explanation / Answer
Cells A = Prophase
Cells B = Cytokinesis.
Cells C = Metaphase
Cells D = Interphase

Cells A = Prophase - Condensation of chromosomes and formation of mitotic spindle starts in this phase. two centromeres can be seen at this stage, as a division of centromere takes place. Nucleolus got disappear in this stage.
Cells F = Anaphase - In this stage, the sister chromatids are pulled at opposite poles away from center, with the help of spindle fibers arising from centromeres.

Answer 30 - Cells C is in Metaphase - Metaphase plate is seen in this stage all chromosomes are aligned on the metaphase plate.

Answer 31 Cell D is in the first phase of M phase that is interphase. Also known as a prepartory phase in which cells double its content. Cytoplasm multiplication and DNA replication occur in this phase.

Answer 32 In cell A the structure which is labeled as X is centromere. Mitotic spindle formation takes place from centromere which moves between the chromosomes as the chromosomes move apart and pull the chromatids apart during cell division.

Answer 33.
1. Cells D = Interphase
2. Cells A = Prophase
3. Cells C = Metaphase
4. Cells F = Anaphase -
5 Cells E = Telophase
6. Cells B = Cytokinesis

Answer 34. Animal cell.
a) This diagram depicts the cell division in an animal cell because the cells divide by pinching inside and results into two. Because animal cells are soft and squishy they can pinch off to separate.
b) If it would be a plant cell, a furrow or cell plate would be shown in the diagram while dividing the cell as the plant cell has hard and rigid cell wall, this cell can not be pinched off. The cell plate is made up of the plasma membrane and cell wall components.
