Question

Can someone please help me anwser these questions I had for my lab report, I dont really understand it..

1. Hydrogen gas is explosive within the rang of4%-75%v/v. Assuming that each student in your class produces 6L of H2 and that the lab isn't ventilated , is there danger of an explosion?

2.If you do not heat the crucible strongly enough to remove all volatile impurities in part 2b, what will be the result if those impurities(a) are completely volatilized when heating your standard sample or (b) are only volatilized when heating your sample.

Explanation / Answer

1.Total volume of H2 produced = 6 L x total nuber of students

Volume of class room = height of the room x width of the room x length of the room

Concentration of hydrogen in the room (v/v%) = total volume of H2 / volume of the room

If the calculated value of v/v% of H2 is in the rane of 4% - 75% v/v then there is a danger of an explosion.

2. If the crucible is not heated strongly enough to remove volatile impurities then those impurities are completely volatilized when heating your standard sample.
