The five historical figures that made an impact on the way abnormal psychological disorders are treated and their accomplishments are given below.
Learned helplessness: Proposed by Martin Seligman. It states that when an animal or human is subjected to repeated aversive stimuli from which it is unable to avoid, in due course the animal refuses to try to escape from that perceived helpless situation even after it had acquired the ability to escape. For example, if a baby elephant is tied to a string from which it cannot escape, it refuses to even try and break the string even it has grown into an adult and has the ability to break.
