Question

Map Sapling Learning Glycolysis is the process by which energy is harvested from glucose by living things. Several of the reactions of glycolysis are thermodynamically unfavorable (nonspontaneous), but proceed when they are coupled with other reactions (a) Which of these reactions is(are) unfavorable? Select all that apply. A. Pit glucose glucose-6-phosphate H,0 AG 3.30 kcal mol B. Pit fructose-6-phosphate fructose-1,6- bisphosphate H2o AG 3.90 kcal/ mol C. ATP+ H o ADP+ Pi AG 7.30 kcal mol (b) which of these reactions can be coupled so that the overall reaction is favorable? Select that apply. all A and B A and C B and C (o) reaction net change in free energy if one set of reactions from part (b) is coupled so that the overall is favorable o Previous 8 Give up & View solution check Answer 0 Next Exit Hint

Explanation / Answer

a) if delta G is negitive, then the reactions are feasible and spontaneous. So from the above data

only the equation C is favourable and A and B are unfavourable

b) when you combinetwo reactions, the total amunt of delta G should become negitive, then the reaction will be feasible so when A and B mix, the overal  delta G will be positive. So mixing A and B is not favourable.

But mixing A or B with C will lead to to give  negitive delta G. So these two reaction will be feasible

c) If A and B mixesd , delta G = 7.2 kcal/mol

If A and C mixesd , delta G = -4.30 kcal/mol

If A and C mixesd , delta G = -3.40 kcal/mol
