Question

In the figure below, four charged parades are traveling in circular orbits because of the force applied by the uniform magnetic field shown. Which particles have a negative charge? Select all that apply. In the figure below, four particles moving to the right as they enter a region of uniform magnetic field, directed into the page as noted. All particles move at the same speed and have the same charge. Which particle has the smallest mass? For the particle m the previous question, the charge of the particle is

Explanation / Answer

1) Both B and D have the negative charges. For a inward field (cross symbol) negative charge will move in clock wise direction (dot symbol) and for an outward field, the negative charge will move in counter clock wise direction.

2) D will have small mass. Since r = mv/qB. For the same mass and same cahrge, the radius is directly proportional to the mass. Hence D being small radius, will have small mass.

3) positive. For a field directed into the page, positive charge will move in counter clock wise direction.
