Question
Can someone show me how to do the work for the first part? For some reason I keep getting it wrong, but I think it may be a calculation error.
Two blocks, one with mass mi 0.065 kg and one with mass m2 0.011 kg, are connected to one another by a string. The inner block is connected to a central pole by another string as shown in the figure with r -0.565 m and r2-0.801 m. When the blocks are spun around on a horizontal frictionless surface at an angular speed of 1.88 rev/s, what is the tension in each of the two strings? m2 r1 T 5.124 T1.229Explanation / Answer
According the given problem,
First calculate the centripetal force for the outer block,
= m2 *422 r2
=0.011* 42 *1.882* 0.801
= 1.229N
Now,calculate the centripetal force for the inner block
= m1*422 r1
= 0.065*42*1.882*0.565
=5.124N
Tension in the string connected to the pole = 1.229 +5.124
= 6.353N
Tension in the string connecting the two masses = 1.229 N
