A convex mirror with a focal length of B1 cm is used to give a truck driver a view behind the vehicle. (a) If a person who is 1.7 stands 3.2m from the mirror, where is the person's image located? (b) Is the image upright or inverted? (c What is the size of the image?

Explanation / Answer

Given :

Object Distance u = 3.2m

Focal length f = -0.81m

So, for the equation 1/v + 1/u = 1/f

1/v = 1/f -1/u = -1/.81 - 1/3.2 = -1.55

v = - 0.645 m

Magnification m = -v/u = 0.206 positive value, so image is upright.

So size of image = 0.206X1.7 = 0.342 m
