Question

Can someone please please please help me with this question? I will really appreciate it if you can show me full workings to each part of the question. It is my final lap! I actually only need help with the last part, which is part d.

Medical Ultrasound a) Explain the A, B and M mode for ultrasound (US) imaging. b) What is a mechanical index (MD? c) How can you measure blood flow using US? Please explain the sending/receiving protocol. Sketch in a 3d-diagram in which direction blood flow can be measured relative to the position of the US transducer and explain. d) Explain why microbubbles added into the bloodstream may increase the acoustic contrast. Give a rough estimate for the bubble size when imaging at 3 MHz.

Explanation / Answer

In Medical Sonography we try to see the internal body structure with the help of Ultrasound.Contrast Enhanced Ultrasound uses Ultrasound contrast medium to enhance the image. Sound waves are reflected back from the interfaces of pair of substances. This interface can be of air bubbles or different complex structure.Gas filled microbubbles are commercially available to inject into the veins for going into the circulation. It has a property of echogenicity i.e. the ability to reflect ultrasound. The contrast of echogenicity between gas in microbubbles and the tissue around it.So Ultrasound imagingenhances the contrast of the image by increasing the reflection. of the waves.

When imaging at 3 MHz there is roughly 30 % change in bubble scattering signal in second harmonic. This gives an idea bubble size in increase at 3MHz
