Question

In the figure below, let L = 125 cm and d = 0.215 cm. The slits are illuminated with coherent 600-nm light. Calculate the distance y from the central maximum for which the average intensity on the screen is 75.0% of the maximum.

I'm having trouble correctly calculating the answer. Please see image below

For the intensity I averaged over time for a double interference pattern, where Imax is the maximum intensity on the screen, 0 is the angle shown in the figure. We have the following for the intensity. nd sin 0 Using the small-angle approximation sin 0 (y/L), substituting into the equation above and solving for y, gives the following. Next, with I m (0.750)Imax, we can substitute a value for each variable. x 10 7 ml 1.25 cos 11 75 x 10-3 m T 2.15 Your response differs from the correct answer by more than 10%. Double check your calculations. m Submit SkiD (you cannot come back)

Explanation / Answer

I think you did mistake in cos-1(0.75) part which should be 0.523599 radian and now multiplied by other factors gives

0.5814 x 10-4 m = 0.058 mm
