Please help me with my homework!!!! How to solve this problem? Find the wavelength of an electron with energy E=2MeV. [hint: The de Broglie relation =h/p is correct at allenergies,but since this energy is relativeistic, you will have touse the relation E2=(pc)2 +(mc2)2 to find p.] answer is =6.4x10-13m Please help me with my homework!!!! How to solve this problem? Find the wavelength of an electron with energy E=2MeV. [hint: The de Broglie relation =h/p is correct at allenergies,but since this energy is relativeistic, you will have touse the relation E2=(pc)2 +(mc2)2 to find p.] answer is =6.4x10-13mExplanation / Answer
E2=(pc)2 +(mc2)2
The rest mass energy of electron is (mc2)=0.511 MeV
So 4 MeV = (pc)2 +(0.511MeV)2
pc = 1.9336 MeV
p = 1.9336 MeV /c
p = (1.9336 MeV)(1.6x10-13 J /MeV ) / 3x108 m/s
=1.03126x10-21 kgm/s
wavelength
=h/p
h = 6.626 x10 -34 Js
plug in values.
