Question

Top . A beam of electrons travels between two parallel wire coils, as shown in as shown in Lee the figures to the right. When the coils carry no current, the electron beam is undeflected and hits the center of the screen, as indicated by the dashed line. When a constant current / in the indicated direction is created in the coils, the electron beam is deflected toward which edge of the screen? Prakl Wire Cols · Electron heam (A) The top (B) The bottom (C) The left (D) None; it is not deflected Top View Side Viw

Explanation / Answer

In the problem, it is given that the direction of the current in the coils is same (i.e. Anti-clockwise).

According to Thumb rule, the magnetic field is in the direction from "Right side to Left side".

Again, we know that the moving particles of positive charge will deflected in the direction of magnetic filed direction, and negative charged particle in the direction opposite to it.

In the problem, the beam of electrons (negative charge) is travelling between the coils. So based on the above said statements, the electron beam will be deflected to "Top" (On side view) on the screen.

So answer is ...... Option (A)
