Question
Please do not google and copy & paste a answer that does not completely answer my question. I need actual help with an answer that has all of the hormones and mechanisms with an explanation of the question. If you can not answer completely or correctly please do not answer.
A recent meta-analysis evaluating low-fat diets in western cultures has a strong correlation with the increased obesity rise. Why would a high carbohydrate, low fat diet lead to increased obesity. Please explain hormones that are involved and mechanism for full credit.
Explanation / Answer
All the oligosaccharides , polysaccharides r ultimately converted into the monosaccharide ( glucose) which is further metabolised by through a series of enzymatic reactions into 2 molecules of pyruvate and the energy is released .
Energy is also released through the pathways of Krebs cycle
When there is abundant supply of glucose, the concentration of fructose 2,6 bisphosphate ( formed by phosphorylation of fructose 6 phosphate by phosphofructokinase -2 ) increases, stimulating glycolysis by activating phosphofructokinase - 1 and inhibiting fructose 1,6- bisphosphate.
As a result of this inhibition, the excess of glucose is stored in the tissues as fat droplets and is the main cause of the obesity
Thus it can be concluded that fructose 2,6- bisphosphate plays a unique role in the regulation of glycolysis & gluconeogenesis in liver.
