QUESTION 2 0 poi [Include all of your answers in a SINGLE document and attach that document at the end of the exam. Label each answer clearly. Please begin each problem on a new page/sheet. Point values are indicated in the question body below.] Problem 2: A home pregnancy test is not always accurate. Suppose the probability that the test indicates that a woman is pregnant when she actually is not is 0.03, and the probability the test indicates that a woman is not pregnant when she really is, is 0.02. Assume that the probability that a woman who takes the test is actually pregnant is 0.8 a). What is the probability that a woman is pregnant if the test yields a not pregnant result? (Hint: It is not given above you have to calculate it!) [5 pts] b). What is the probability that the test indicates that a woman is not pregnant? (Again, it is not given above!) [4 pts]

Explanation / Answer

a)here P(test non pregnant) =P(pregnant and test result non pregnant+not pregnant and test result non pregnant)

=0.8*0.02+(1-0.8)*(1-0.03)=0.21

therefore probability of pregnant given test result non pregnant

=P(pregnant and test result non pregnant)/P(test non pregnant) =0.8*0.02/0.21=0.07619

b)

P(test non pregnant) =P(pregnant and test result non pregnant+not pregnant and test result non pregnant)

=0.8*0.02+(1-0.8)*(1-0.03)=0.21
