Question

In the table below are descriptions of specific observations in the moth population. a. Read the specific description and write a general observation that Darwin would noted had he made the specific observation. (3 points) Not all caterpillars emerging from eggs will survive to maturity due to predation and limited food supplies. addition, bats. An adult female luna moth may lay up to 200 eggs which hatch ten days later and small caterpillars emel In general, luna moths are green in color and can have wingspan up to 114 mm which may include wing tails. moths disrupts the bat's sonar. Luna moths lacking these wing tails are most often eaten by bats b, Based on the information provided above draw a specific inference/conclusion that Darwin would likely make. (2 points

Explanation / Answer

the specific conclusion in this case is that only the fit of the moths are able to survive. This means “surivial of the fittest”. This is because, there has been adaptation in the moths in the form of green color so as to hide behind the colour of tress and leaves and the wings which allow the moths to fly away in case of a predatory attack. When the sonar of the bats are disrupted, the bats would attempt to clear or remove the factors that are causing such disruptions and hence they would try to eat the moths. The moths who fly survive, the moths who can’t are eaten. Hence, adaptation and survival of the fittest.
