A promise for early intervention has been demonstrated by the growth of neuroscience for detection of the cognitive problems; even before they are behaviorally observable. Neuroscience makes extremely important contributions as differences in cognitive performance are due to differences in neural activity patterns. Using the technique of functional neuro imaging in developing children evidence of learning disorders like; attention, sensory-processing, language, or math deficits can be detected even any behavioral evidence of the problem. The neurological mechanism behind, Mirror Neurons and Neonate Imitation, the importance of touch for growth, the release of stress and cognitive development has been explained. Thus cognitive development is linked to multiple factors not only our inheritance. This article gives a holistic picture of cognitive development. This article is an extension of the Piaget's (1936) theory of cognitive development according to which intelligence is not a fixed trait, and cognitive development occurs due to biological interaction with the environment while maturation takes place.
