Question
In thinking about people that you know, do you believe that you have a network in place? Explain your answer to this by answering the following questions:
Define ways in which you would go about networking to explore opportunities in your career field as a teacher and obtain more information for yourself. If applicable, explain ways in which you have already done that and how you will expand going forward.
Choose one person in your career field that you would like to have a conversation with. What do you think you can learn from this person?
Explanation / Answer
When it comes to networking, experts emphasise quality over quantity. In other words, we should seek to establish contacts whose presence in our lives is clearly valuable to our career, instead of simply expanding our list of contacts. If we want to find a way to connect to somebody important, we should find a way we can be of use to the person. It easy to assume that successful professionals already have everything they want, but it worth the trouble to find out a contact's desires and concerns. Through these efforts, chances are high that we will be able to find something worthwhile we can offer.
