Re: Trimming down the system testing time
The new production monitoring system that is being developed for the client XYZ corporation has reached to the stage of completion. The team has already completed the unit testing and the integration testing and have noticed the production monitoring tool to be working absolutely fine and in accordance with the client’s requirement. However, the system testing is pending at this stage and is scheduled to be conducted in the next three weeks. The system testing is an integral part of the overall testing procedure and requires dedicated time and efforts by the concerned testing team to notice the behaviour of the different units and modules when assembled into a system.
Trimming down the system testing time from the required three weeks to five days will not give the testing team an adequate time to run the multiple test scenarios and simulate the necessary testing environment. If system testing is not conducted properly, it may have adverse affects on the performace of the production monitoring system and on the success of the overall project. We all believe that, as a renowned service organisation, it is against the philosophy and principles of Delcore corporation to deliver an under quality, poorly tested product to its valuable clients.
Therefore, I would request you to kindly allow the testing team to complete the system testing as per its scheduled time. We may think of and discuss in person, the other areas of the project development process in order to trim down the delivery time.
Explanation / Answer
1. You are a systems analyst at DelCore Corporation and you are a project leader of a team that is developing a new production monitoring system for a client. Your team completed the unit testing and the integration testing and is preparing to start the system testing which is scheduled for the next three weeks. Your manager, Yosemite Sam, who is under a lot of management pressure, wants to deliver the system to the client within several days. He approached you and asked if you could trim system testing from three weeks to five days. Your manager requested that you write to him a brief memo expressing your views.
Question: As a system analyst, you know that this is not a good decision. Therefore, what do you include in your brief memo regarding your manager’s decision to trim down the system testing time? What are your views concerning this request?
