While making a film, it is important to take some procedures into account. According to the book, filmmakers control visual design, sets, costumes, actors, props, light and color. To create an effective designed, the director, cinematographer, and production designer need to work together. The cinematographer play an important role because he is the one who creates the images that can be seen on the screen. It is important to cautiously control the image elements and their balancing to the frame, so the audience can watch a clear image.
The movie clip “Smashing UK” reflects the top ten films cinematography. The top ten films cinematography are Oblivion, Lawrence of Arabia, The Night of the Hunter, Skyfall, Taxi Driver, Life of Pi, Citizen Kane, Apocalypse Now, Inception, Road to Perdition. In each of the top ten films cinematography, it is noticeable how the visual design, sets, costumes, actors, props, light and color were carefully controlled to give the audience the perception that they are right there in the film.
The lighting designed was well applied in each of the films. The distribution of the light was stated clearly and in detail on screen. For me, a really good example of lighting designed was shown in the movie clip “Lawrence of Arabia”, the sun was a realistic lighting designed. The cinematographer made an excellent work taking care of every aspect. Depending on the characteristics of each of the films watched in the movie clip, the cinematographer select a given film stock, so that the controlled of the image characteristics can be seen real.
Besides the color, the light, the props, and all of that, it is important to highlight the resolution and tonal values that were expressed in each film because of the great manipulation of the digital cameras using the right angle, so the audience can appreciate a vivid and excellent image.
By studying, reading, and watching movie clips, I can now really appreciate the art of the cinematography. It is impressed how each detail counts to make not a goof but an excellent movie.
