Can someone please help me with these 5 questions?

Unrecognized Storage Device You have connected an external storage device to your new MacBook Pro, but the operating system is not recognizing the device's contents. Instead, it asks whether you want to format the device. Why might this be happening? Second Hard Drive Connection While installing a second hard drive in your computer, you realize that your computer does not include a cable to connect the hard drive to the motherboard. How can you determine what type of cable to purchase? Incompatible Memory Card While attempting to copy files from your digital camera to your laptop, you realize that the memory card from your camera does not fit in the memory card slot on your laptop. What other steps can you take to copy the photos from the camera to the laptop? Missing Files You stored some files on a USB flash drive, but when you attempted to access them you noticed that they no longer were there. What might have happened, and what next steps will you take to attempt to recover these files? Media Not Supported You purchased a program that came on a DVD, but your laptop does not have an optical disc drive. What next steps can you take to install this program?

Explanation / Answer

1)Unrecognized storage device-

Mac or Windows computer not recognizing your external hard drive or flash drive. This is a common problem, especially when connecting hard drives between Mac OS X, Windows and Linux. It can also happen on a single system where it was working just fine for a long time and then suddenly stops being recognized by the operating system.

Sometimes the fix is easy and sometimes it is a bit more complicated. In this article, I’ll try to go through the different solutions on Mac and Windows for fixing this issue. How the drive is formatted and what file system is being used is the most common reason why drive is not recognized.

2)Second hard drive connection-find out what type of cable system is used to connect your drive to motherboard. There are two systems in common use:IDE drives(also known as PATA or Parallel ATA),and SATA(Serial ATA).PATA drives have wide, flat cables or thick cables as wide as your finger, while SATA drives have thin cables about the diameter of a pencil. You will need to know whether to buy an IDE or SATA drive, and you should be able to tell by looking at the cables.

3)Incompatible memory card-Verifying the card reader slot
If the card reader slot on your computer does not have the SDHC logo, it is most likely not SDHC compatible and will only read cards up to 2GB capacity.

Other options you can use to read files on your SDHC card
If your computer's card reader is not SDHC compatible, you have 3 options available:

1. You can connect your camera (or other device) that works with SDHC to your computer using a USB cable that came with the camera. You should be able to transfer files to the computer this way.

2. You can contact you computer manufacturer to see if they have a free firmware update for your model that will make it SDHC compatible

3. You can buy inexpensive SanDisk SDHC card readers that will connect to your computer's USB port."

4)Missing files-Taking the backup of hard disks data is crucial as it may help you resurrect lost files and folders in case of accidental deletion or hard disk formatting. The misery is, no one is careful enough to backup their data or important files. The backup copy is a still a great and easiest way to recover data from external or internal hard disk drive failure or corruption. Hard disk failure can happen anytime due to the bad power supply, virus attack, damaged block, sectors and corrupted operating system files e.g., NTLDR, boot.ini, ms-dos.sys etc

5)Media not supported-

Modern laptops and even many modern desktop PCs are dropping disc drives. If you still have discs with software, music, videos, or anything else on them, there are still ways to use them.

Your options range from purchasing an external drive you can plug in via USB when you need the discs to converting those discs to digital formats so you can access them on demand. It’s up to you.
