Purpose
The purpose of this first writing assignment is to give me, the instructor, an initial assessment of your
incoming writing skills. Once I have read your work I can provide you with a personalized course
experience. This includes assignments that will improve your current skills, but also those which will
enhance, sharpen and broaden your writing abilities to prepare and motivate you for the many aspects
of technical writing which your professional life may require. Like most activities, writing takes
practice, and becoming a good writer takes lots of practice!
Assignment
Write a short, personal essay that answers the following question: Who is your hero or heroine in life?
Your essay should address the following questions:
- Why did you choose this particular person as your hero or heroine? You may choose a living
person, someone who lived in the past or even a fictional character.
- What characteristics of this person make him/her special to you?
- How has this person affected your life?
This is your own personal reflection on someone who significantly influences you. Your work should
not simply be a list of answers to the above questions, but a discussion that explains who you chose
and why. As such, use complete sentences and adhere to proper rules of grammar and spelling.
Use the following five-paragraph format:
- Paragraph 1: Introduction
Guide the reader into your work by providing the relevant background for your choice,
including a thesis statement.
- Paragraphs 2 – 4: Development
Focus on one important quality of your hero/heroine per paragraph, and explain your
reasoning. Be as specific as possible; details will enhance the clarity and focus of your writing.
- Paragraph 5: Conclusion
Reflect and summarize the impact and significance of this person on your life.
Other Specifications
- Include a header with your name, date, course and section in the upper left-hand corner.
- Insert a title, centered in bold at the top of your essay. The title should be descriptive and
customized to the content of your essay (as opposed to a generic title such as, “My First Tech
2900 Essay”)
- The text should be in 12-point Times New Roman font with 1.5-line spacing. Paragraphs should
be properly indented and each one should be at least 5 sentences long.
- Proper written mechanics (grammar, spelling and punctuation) will count for 50% of the overall
score for this assignment. Please proofread your work and check for errors before submission.
Explanation / Answer
It's important for every human being to have one hero in his/her life. Hero that can motivate you, to whom you can see as your role model, to whom you can discuss your worries and to whom you take get, answers of your queries. For me, the hero of my life is my father. My father my real hero.
My dad is the real hero of my life he is the one who is most special to me. He inherits multiple qualities that attract me to claim him as my hero. He is very good athlete as well as very fine artist. He is engineer by profession. He keeps on motivating me and always guides me in my difficulties. I always enjoyed his company and always love to be with him. He always taught me good values and always tries to make me a nice human being.
Every day he takes out some time for me in the night to listen to my day to day activities and all the problems that i have. These things make me fearless to talk as well as share everything with him. And these all the reasons that make him as my hero.
I have accepted my dad as my hero and he has changed as well as influenced my life a lot. It seems that on every step of my life i must have to take advice from him. I'm really happy that my dad is my hero and i'm really proud of it.
