IT Leaders: Reinventing IT as a Strategic Business PartnerExplanation / Answer
1. With the changing scenario, business will have the challenge to keep IT focus on their core function. As in the case mentioned, at P&G routine IT tasks were outsourced to HP while the internal IT team was now focussing on business strategy and ways to improve revenues. Also, with changing repsonsibilities, there will be not a very clear demarcation on roles and responsibilties of businesses and IT as both are charged with the roles of increasing revenues and profitibility. This may create drift between the two fucntions.
2. Companies are now demading more involvement of IT personnels in business know how for better understanding of business requirements. With this outlook, traditional IT workers should be well versed the decision making of the buisness which would require them to have basic knowledge of processes, project management and finance. This would help them synergise their knowledge for better products and pofitibility.
3. IT has now become an important part of Organizations. Be it finance, HR, Operations or Production, IT influence is invariably present for faster and reliable work completion. Apple has been introducing Iphones with sharp features and their design team does take inputs from other fucntions to create one of the most desired products of its generation.
Products like Amazon Echo, would not have been possible without collaboration with all IT functions of Amazon together. Amazons cloud computing function, AI platform(Alexa), hardware systems like speakers a mini computer-All these functions came together to create Amazon Echo. After the idea of Echo was envisaged, If these various functions/departments in Amazon would not have worked together on product design, product would not be a success as it is now.
Another example is Uber, where IT platform has changed the way people take taxis. Without IT, Uber would have nver conceptuliased.
