You were rushing to an important meeting when your colleague, Bryan, stopped you and began to discuss a personal problem. You wanted to break off the conversation so that you could get to the meeting on time. You glanced at your watch, trying to signal to him that you were in a rush, but he kept on talking. you said, "I've got to go. I'm going to be late for a meeting." But he still continued. You turned and started to walk away, but Bryan followed you and kept talking as if he never received any of your verbal and nonverbal signals that the conversation must end. As a result, you were late for the meeting. During the meeting, your supervisor also announced that you did not reach the sales target this month. You were unhappy for the rest of the day.
a) Identify and describe the individual difference that best explains Bryan's behavior

b) situations like the above can result in conflicts. One type of conflict that can occur is value conflict. Identify and describe 3 types of value conflicts. provide an example of each value conflict. Illustrate each value conflict with an example.
c) Describe what is meant by self-esteem. With reference to the case above, explain how your self-esteem was effected as a resulted of the meeting announcement.

d) Research shows a strong relationship between organisational justice and job performance. Discuss 6 practical implication derived from equity theory

Explanation / Answer

a.) i) Lack of alertness: When you were trying to give Bryan all types of verbal and non-verbal signals, he was paying attention.

ii) Not trying to understand others problem: When you were trying to make him understand your situation, he was not trying to understand.

b.) Value conflicts are made of two terms value and conflicts, Value means the principles that govern one's behaviours. And conflicts, are issues that arise due to the perception difference. So basically value conflicts are the issues that arise due the difference in values.

i) Misunderstanding: When the person doesn't pay attention to what is said to him.

ii) Verbal fight: As when You got late for your meeting you can loose control and can yell at bryan for the delay.

iii) Accountability issues: You can make bryan responsible for the delay but in this case he actually was accountable.

c) Self esteem is a way of describing your confidence level as when it is high you are vry confident, you feel as if you're going to conquer the world. When low, it can really make you uncomfortable and you loose the desire to even work.

When you were announced your sales target results, it lowered your confidence and that why your whole day was a mess.

d) i) When your colleague gets more attention than you, you find it injustice.

ii) When you put efforts and hardwork into the project and you get the result as a salary hike, you get highly motivated and feel that you are going right and doing jsutice with your work.

iii) When you were announced that you didnt reach your sales target you were highly demotivated this affected your job performance.

iv) You may feel that your hardwork didnt pay off and you are not worthy of the task, which wil again affect your job performance.

v) Suppose you have finished your task on time and even crossed the target, you will want to be paid for the extra target, but this is not necessary in every organisation.
