"An essential component in promoting student learning is what Nel Noddings has called the ethic of care". The term ethics of care refers to the nature of morality. Caring is just as important as schooling. Noddings stated that how teachers care for students can make a huge difference on how students experience school. A survey shows that students work harder for teachers who care more for them. "The survey authors concluded that effective schooling relies almost entirely on creative and passionate teachers". As a teacher, to create a close relationship with your students you must show compassion, hold high expectations, and show personal interest in students inside and outside of the classroom.

Having solidarity with students means remembering what it was like to once be a child, and having empathy means being able to understand and share feelings. It is important to show affection towards students and to value their lives and families. We have to make sure that every child knows that we are there for them and that we do care.
Not every child lives in a positive home environment where parents are able to give motivational support with homework. Some students may not have parents at home, have no supper or bath before bed, or even have clean clothes to put on school. As teachers we have to take these factors into consideration and give every child a positive school environment where someone cares for them. The article describes about the importance of caring to be given to the students to ensure effective schooling based on Nel Noddings’ opinion. There would be different types of students in a school coming from different cultures, economic class and circumstances and good care can ensure better teacher-student relationship and education irrespective of these differences. The teachers should be able to show compassion, hold expectations and show personal interest in students not only in classrooms but also outside as well to ensure close relationship. Students should feel that the teachers care for them and can understand them so that they would start sharing their feelings and develop commitment towards the knowledge sharing process. The schools should be able to provide a positive environment for all the students with changes in school structure and school culture ensuring care instead of giving attention to the life circumstances of each student.
