Question

Please answer questions 5a, complete the 2 columns of the chart, and answer part 6 in the last one. Thank you so much!:)

5. Experiments 1,2,3,4 were performed with 25.0 mL of 4 monoprotic acids. The acid molarity is unknown. They were each titrated with a monobasic base of 0.10 M. (alkali is another word for base) trong Acid-Strong Base strong Acid-Weak Base 4 Weak Acid-Weak Base Weak Acid- Strong Base Poi a) Use the graphs to calculate the molarities of the four acids Pomis Why are the initial pH and equivalence points at different values even-though the concentration of each acid is the same? Explain your answer using the idea of strong and weak acids. On each graph mark and write the value of the initial phi of the acid and the phi at equivalence uaaE el ue hau Chi h cciciy.uhere as,in Cr30

Explanation / Answer

Formulae: 1. pH = -Log[H+], i.e. [H+] = 10pH

2. pOH = -Log[OH-], i.e. [OH-] = 10pOH

According to the above relations, the two columns in question 5a can be completed.

Note: N indicates normality = no. of equivalents present in 1 L of solution

Part 6:

2. The molar mass of NaCl = 58.5 g/mol

No. of moles = mass/molar mass

i.e. The mass of NaCl = 0.1 mol*58.5 g/mol = 5.85 g

The molar mass of CaCl2 = 111 g/mol

The mass of CaCl2 = 0.1 mol*111 g/mol = 11.1 g

The solution, in which highest mass of solid is dissolved, will have the highest boiling point since the solid present in the solution decreases the rate of evaporation of the solvent, thereby increasing the boiling point.

Hence, (100 mL water + 0.1 mol CaCl2) will have the highest boiling point.

The pure solvent will have a higher freezing point (which takes less time for freezing) than the solution (which takes more time for freezing) because the solid present in the solution decreases the rate of solidification of solvent, thereby taking more time to freeze. More -ve value indicates the least, whereas less -ve value indicates the highest.

Hence, 100 mL of water will have the highest freezing point.
