Question

Please answer question 1,4,and5 (short answers) Thanks INVESTIGATION 1: HOW ARE IMAGES FORMED BY LENSES When light is emitted or reflected by an object, point on the object serves source of light from each of these points out in all directions in To understand what we or image is formed by a lens sources ror, we must first see what happens to the light from each of these point is small The of a light bulb, not exactly a point source of light, enough to be a good approximation. focus on the rays coming from To simplify matters, in this activity you will only two points of an object You will need two miniature light bulbs power supply comb cylindrical lens green filter

Explanation / Answer

(1) Each point on these light bulbs acts as a source of light.

(4) When two rays of light after reflection/refraction do not intersect, but they only appear to meet if the actual rays are extended back from the point of reflection/refraction. Such kind of intersection of a pair of light rays results in foration of virtual image. Thse image cannot be obtained on a screen.

On the contrary, real image is formed when a pair of light ray after reflection/refraction actually intersect. Such images can also be obtained on a screen.

(5) If you focus a parallel beam of light on a converging lens , the parallel rays of light appears to bend/converge towards the second focus of the lens.

If you focus a parallel beam of light on a diverging lens, the rays tend to diverge away from the principle axis, but if extended back they tend to meet at the first focus.
