Question

Constants PartA The focal length of the eyepiece of a certain microscope is 17.0 mm. The focal length of the objective is 9.00 mm . The distance between objective and eyepiece is 19.5 cm . The final image formed by the eyepiece is at infinity. Treat all lenses as thin What is the distance from the objective to the object being viewed? min Submit Request Answer ? Part B What is the magnitude of the linear magnification produced by the objective? ml = Submit Request Answer Part C What is the overall angular magnification of the microscope? Submit Request Answer

Explanation / Answer

First convert all the focal lengths from mm to cm

feyepiece = 17 mm = 1.7 cm

fobjective = 9 mm = 0.9 cm

As we know the image for the objective is object for eyepiece

so, Image distance for objective dimage = 19.5 - 1.7 cm = 17.8 cm

so, Using lens equation

dobject = dimage * f / dimage - f

dobject = 17.8*0.9 / 17.8 - 0.9

dobject = 0.947 cm or 9.479 mm

b) m = - 17.8 / 0.947

m = 18.796

c) m' = 25 / 1.7 = 14.71

so, Overall magnification

mtotal = m * m'

mtotal = 14.71 * -18.796

mtotal = - 276
