Question
Can you please help me answer the yellow highlighted parts (for my genetics class)? Thanks so much!
c) Would it be possible to develop genetic therapy to treat obesity? Explain your reasoning Yes, it would be possible to develop genetic therapy to treat obesity. b) For the gene you have chosen, are there genetic variants with clinical relevance in the introns? If so, hovw would you explain this fact since introns do not encode any part of the final mature RNA? Yes, there are genetic variants associated with LEPR in the introns.Explanation / Answer
c) Yes gene therapy could be used to develop genetic therapy to treat obesity. Scientists have developed a protein PPAR delta which could burn the fat deposited in the adipose tissue. They have also developed a chemical compound GW1516 which enables to burn fat more efficiently and enable the person to do twice more of exercise without tiring out.
d) Actually introns are the non-coding regions in the gene. LEPR gene is the gene which gives information about the regulation of body weight. It regulates hunger, thirst, sleep, moods etc. Actually research shows that mostlyexonic variations in the genes produce significant change in the organisms. Variation in the coding of exons 5 and 8 were studied. Intronic variations also produce polymorphic variations.
