Physics 222 Engineering Physics ll Winter 2017 optics Problem 22,47 Problem 22.47 Part A A dmraction grating is to be used to find the ofthe light inthe emission spectrum of a gas The grating spacing is not known, but a light having a known wavelength of632 8 nm is defected by 43.2 away from the centra maximum in the second order by this grating Light of the wavelength be is defected by 50,3 away from the oentral maximum in the second order What is the wavelength of this light? 12.4 My Answers arsa Continue MacBook Pro

Explanation / Answer

here,

d * sin(theta) = n * lamda

d= n * lamda/sin(theta)

the wavelength of light , lamda1 = 632.8 nm

theta1 = 43.2 degree

and

theta2 = 50.3 degree

let the wavelength for seccond light be lamda2

so,

n * lamda1/sin(theta1) = n * lamda2/sin(theta2)

632.8/sin(43.2) * sin(50.3) = lamda2

lamda2 = 711.2 nm

the wavelength of seccond light is 711.2 nm
